Growth spurt!

We went to the doctor today for Wade's 2 month appointment and apparently he is on a mission to be the biggest baby in the surrounding area. He is now 24 1/4 inches long and 13 lbs 12.5 oz, which puts him in the 90th percentile compared to other babies his age (only 10% are bigger than he is)! I knew all that food had to be going somewhere, but geez!

He also got the first 2 of a long line of vaccinations. As we were waiting for the nurse, he played around on the table- yelling, smiling and laughing. Needless to say, he did really well (way better than his mom) and only cried as he was getting the shots. He got over it really fast and decided to take a nap after all the excitement.

Later that day, he finally got to meet Great-Grandma & Great-Grandpa Schroeder and Great-Aunt Jay & Great-Uncle Pat. He was thrilled with all the attention and was a very happy little camper, until of course, he got hungry...

By the way, if you go to the photographer's website (http://www.molliekphotography.com/) and go the the blog part, you can see the little write-up she did on Wade's shoot.

Sling batter, batter- SLING!

My new favorite toy- slings!
I had one that I bought on Craigslist, but it seemed way too confining and had too much "stuff," pockets and elastic and huge straps... So I did some research, and it turns out that it's really easy and inexpensive to make your own- plus you get to pick out the fabric!

Here's the one I bought. It's really cute and Wade liked it for awhile, before he got too hot and sweaty.

6 yards of knit material- no sewing! Apparently you can do all sorts of fancy wraps and ties, but this is the only one I have mastered so far. He loves it & instantly falls asleep!

Oops, I lied! I did learn one more.
I think he looks like a little Buddah:

2 1/2 yards of (cotton) material folded in half and sewn together. I bought the rings online for $4 a pair. A little more confining, so he's not too sure about this one. Although I like the fact that I can secretly breastfeed while walking around which will save us a bunch of time. We tend to sit in the parking lots of places while the little monster chows down for 45 minutes!

Also, if he falls asleep in this one, I can just lay him down and loosen the rings. The sling then becomes a blanket- ta da!

Milestones

At about 2 days old Wade was randomly smiling. In his sleep, while working on a fart, etc... But, beginning at 5 weeks he began looking right at his Mommy and Daddy and smiling. Now he smiles regularly (when he's in the mood), when either one of us talk to him. Here's the tail-end of a smile just before bath-time. It's difficult to get a picture of his big grin, but I'll keep trying!

Also around 5 weeks, we were walking around the neighborhood in the stroller, he was watching a toy I had hanging from the handle. He very slowly reached out and batted at it. You could tell that he had done it on purpose, and wasn't just flailing his long arms about!

While cutting his nails, I accidentally cut his little finger! He was eating at the time and didn't even notice. I really think it bothered me more than it bothered him. I was taking a picture of his chubby little hands, and he stuck that finger out like, "Look, this is where my mom cut my finger, see?"

Last thought- note to everyone: TAKE CARE OF YOUR TEETH! I finally went to the dentist after about 7 years and the news was not good. I had 3 cavities (I've only ever had 2 my whole life), had to go to a specialist to get a deep cleaning, and need to have a gum-grafting surgery on 3 of my teeth (think skin-grafting, only in your mouth). After numerous shots and hours in the dentist's chair I've taken care of the first two issues. Still to come is the surgery. They told me that all the issues with my gums could have been due to the pregnancy, but the cavities were my own fault. So the moral of the story is don't neglect your teeth, otherwise it is very, very painful & time consuming to get them back into shape!

New Year's, sleeping arrangements, pictures...

I had been waiting to get all the pictures from my friend April from our wild and crazy New Year's Eve celebration :) We had been looking forward to it for 9 months! At about 1:00, I looked at Mark and he could barely keep his eyes open and neither could I. Oh well, we had a blast with the babies ringing in 2009!

We had been noticing that Wade was getting a little big for the cradle, and after waking up in the morning with Wade kicking the end of it, we decided it was time to move him into the much larger pack and play crib. He had decided to scoot himself down all the way to the end and just start whaling away! At night, after I feed him in our bed, I had been picking him up and moving him on this little mini-mattress with the wedges. He didn't even know he was being moved! Now, I actually have to pick him up (sans mattress) and move him- he wakes up every time! Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep last night...
We tried out the "real" crib in his nursery for a nap... That lasted about 20 minutes...I took Wade up to the school to meet my students and visit with the teachers. I was really excited to visit with Valerie and Rayleigh (Val was a 5th grade teacher last year)! He did really well and slept the whole time (much to my student's dismay). When the kids had gone home I had Sharisa hold him while I got prepped to feed him- her belly got in the way a bit! Then, he gave us all a big surprise!Today, I'm very excited to have Wade's pictures taken by our neighbor, Mollie Kendall. She does a great job. Check out her pictures: http://www.molliekphotography.com/. I can't wait to see how they turn out :)

In sad news, I have to go back to work on the 29th of this month. I always knew there was going to be an end to being able to spend all day with the baby, but it just came so quick! I'm going to be a wreck...

10 Things...

Besides the obvious millions of diapers and wipes, here are 10 things I couldn't live without:
1. Family (especially Mark) & friends- for all their support, advice and hand-me-downs
2. Boppy pillow- for the 12 hours a day I spend nursing the little monster
3. Sleeping wedge- because I'm a paranoid mother
4. Cloth diapers/burp towels- for spit-up incidents
5. Pack & play crib- great for naps and a handy changing table where ever you need it
6. Baby monitor- again, being a paranoid mom
7. Stroller- because the car seat is so stinkin' heavy and we like to take walks on those 80 degree winter days here in beautiful Texas :)
8. Baby bjorn- for long grocery shopping trips
9. Camera - to catch the millions of adorable things Wade does every day (see below)
10. Blockbuster- since we can't go OUT to the movies anymore...
