Road trip!

Our first official out-of-state vacation with Wade and we chose to drive as far away from Texas as possible without leaving the country... The question just begs to be asked, Why?

Don't get me wrong, I had played out all possible disaster scenes in my head: screaming fits in the car, no naps, the DVD player breaking down, forgetting his blanket or Pooh bears, etc., etc., etc...

So none of that actually happened. I believe one day Wade didn't nap, but you can tell by the fact that I don't really remember that I either blocked it out, or it wasn't that traumatic. He did well in the car and watched back to back to back to back movies- both there and back. We got out for potty breaks, to stretch our legs, eat lunch and to run around. Then, Wade usually drifted off to sleep at some point after lunch. Sleeping in the hotels was pretty tough- we all had to go to sleep at the same time (which was ok, since we were all exhausted), in the same bed, usually being kicked or bumped or mauled throughout the night.

It was all worth it though. When we got to my parents house, Wade and Babe (oh yeah, did I forget to mention that the dog came with us) were in heaven. Wade wandered the yard and Wade played on the porch, mostly in Mom's fountain. He helped Dad mow the grass, watched Mark and Dad light off bottle rockets, met neighbor Shirley and went for a walk back into the woods to throw rocks into the pond. We really didn't leave the house much, except to go to Potter's Park Zoo. I really think Wade had more fun back at the house, but he endured the zoo I used to go to as a kid ;)

Ok, enough talk... Onto the pictures!

Rawrrr!

Ooh, ooh, ooh!

Wade loved the reptile room

We had a great trip and were very sad to leave. In fact, on our 70-something day of 100+ degree weather here in TX, we are planning an extended stay in MI until our desert of a state returns to more humane temperatures. Sigh, I wish... guess I'll just crank up the air conditioner...
