Today we had a visit with our midwife. Brielle (one of our midwives) gave me some helpful tips on why I'm craving so much salt, like pickles, popcorn and beef jerky- salt is something that helps beef up blood production (blood volume goes up 30% to 50% during pregnancy), why I've been feeling lightheaded- super-low blood pressure, which is very common for me and details about the vitamins and supplements I've been and should be taking. She is a WEALTH of information!
As we got down to business and tried to listen to the baby's heartbeat, we couldn't seem to find it. Nothing to worry about, we could hear my heartbeat and my blood pumping through the placenta, the baby's heartbeat in the umbilical cord, and we could even hear the baby kicking the microphone. Finally, we heard the heartbeat for a full 5 seconds before he or she rolled away and decided that was enough! Mark asked Brielle if she had any predictions on whether or not it was a girl or a boy. She said that she really wanted to say it was a girl, but this was boy-like behavior. She said it tends to be easier to find a girl's heartbeat, more like, "here I am!" Where as boys will dodge it :) She thinks we might be having boy #2!
On that note, we will find out for sure with an ultrasound sometime next week. I can't wait!
